AIKEN, SC – THOMAS ODOM BODIE, JR., 62, beloved husband of Carol Faye Hoover Bodie, died Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Lexington County, SC. Tom was the son of the late Thomas Odom Bodie, Sr. and Reta Mae Fulmer Bodie. He was a graduate of Newberry College. During his career, he worked for SCE&G before moving to Aiken 31 years ago. He retired from Westinghouse at the Savannah River Site and was currently working at Plant Vogtle. He was a diehard Clemson fan. He was a former member of Elmore Masonic Lodge #288 in Pelion and Civitan International in Columbia. He was a former coach for Dixie Youth Baseball and Millbrook Baptist Church basketball teams. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his wife Carol, include two sons, Chadwick Bruce Hoover Bodie (Shannon), Ft. Mill, SC, Matthew Barrett Hoover Bodie (Miriam), Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Ethan Bruce Bodie, Elana Faith Bodie, Matthew Luca Bodie, Kegan Thomas Bodie; three sisters, Wynette Bodie Gunter (Tracy), Steadman, SC, Beverly Bodie Jackson (Sammy), Pelion, SC, Reta Bodie Ditmer (Charles), Red Bank, SC; mother-in-law, Lucy Bolton Hoover, Wagener, SC; brother-in-law, Ricky Dale Hoover (Donna), Aiken, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Minnie Bodie Rawl and father-in-law, Richard Hoover. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, August 17th from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral will be Friday afternoon, August 18th at 1 o’clock at Millbrook Baptist Church with The Revs. Dr. Phillip Dunn, Donald Pope and John O’Cain officiating. Interment will follow in Rocky Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Salley, SC. Pallbearers will be John Arnold, Malcolm Smith, Mark Lawson, William Ferguson, John Swearingen and Tony Kirkland. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ken Goolsby, Lionel Smith, Van Smith, Steve Floyd, Steve DeRiggs, Joe Brown, Houston Brown and Randal Parker.
