AIKEN, SC - Thomas M. Murphy, 82, passed away on April 30, at his home in Aiken, SC. He was born in Chicago, and grew up in Waukegan, IL. He attended Campion Jesuit High School and graduated from Waukegan Township High School.
After serving in the Marines, Tom managed his family’s mobile home park in Park City, IL. He was an active member of Park City politics during its formative years, serving as alderman. Tom and his business partner developed Greenleaf Subdivision and co-owned The Greenleaf Inn Eatery and Saloon. He also worked in real estate.
Tom resided in beautiful downtown Russell, IL, for 28 years on his miniature horse farm. He worked as chief pile-it and manager of the Russell Yacht Club. His best times were spent with family and friends wherever they might gather.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Jean (Reczynski) Murphy; father, Francis E. Murphy; stepmother Lorraine Murphy; son Paul T. Murphy. Tom is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan (Nelson) Murphy; his children JeanMarie Murphy and Laurence J. (Susy) Murphy; a daughter-in-law, Tonya Murphy; grandchildren, Conor, Keara, James, Luc and Gracie; two great-grandchildren; his sister Pat Mallory and family; step-sisters, Mary (Kelly) Hodge and family and Patricia Kelly; his brother-in-law, David (Dawn) Nelson, and many lifelong friends.

At Tom’s request, there will be no memorial service. He felt very fortunate to have his family and many lifelong friends from childhood, high school, and throughout his journey. Remember to hug the people you love!
