AIKEN, SC - Tommy Andrews Houston, 72, of Aiken South Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was born on January 5, 1949 in Kinston, North Carolina to Kirby and Gertrude (Stiles) Houston. He graduated as salutatorian from Jones County High School in 1967. While in college at East Carolina University, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree (1971) and Master of Arts degree (1975) in Mathematics. He was a member of the Phi Sigma Pi Scholastic Academic Fraternity, Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Fraternity, and Delta Phi Alpha German National Honor Society. In 1989, he was recognized as an Outstanding Alumnus for Phi Sigma Pi for scholarship, leadership, and fellowship. In addition, he was President of Toastmasters in Greenville, NC. During his work career, he earned Six Sigma Black Belt Certification, along with many other notable awards and recognitions. Tom worked at the Savannah River Site as a Business Analyst Principal Advisor for 28 years. In addition, he attended and served at Millbrook Baptist Church for 32 years.
Tom proudly served in the US Naval Reserves and US Navy (1971-1976) as a Data Process Specialist in Naples, Italy aboard the USS Cascade. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Stroud Houston, of 40 years and four children; Jonathan (Samantha) Houston, Lauren (David) Tacchi, Misty (Billy) Smith, and Todd (Becky) Brinkley, along with thirteen loving grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and family friends. He is also survived by brothers Randy Houston, Gerald (Darlene) Houston, and Michael Houston. Tom was predeceased by parents Kirby and Gertrude Houston, and sister Marilyn Sue. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to everyone he met.
A Celebration of Tommy’s Life will be Sunday afternoon, December 12th at 3 o’clock in Millbrook Baptist Church.
