Trudy Hoover Whitehurst

AIKEN, SC - Trudy Hoover Whitehurst, 70, of Seneca, SC, died peacefully at home on Sunday, October 30th. Trudy was born in Statesville, NC, a daughter of the late Dwight Eugene and Doris Stewart Hoover. She graduated from South Iredell High School in 1971 and Appalachian University in 1974, where she met the love of her life, Dan Whitehurst, her husband of 48 years. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Seneca, SC. She began her career in education, teaching kindergarten, pre-kindergarten, and elementary school. A devoted and loving wife and mother, Trudy chose to work part-time as a bookkeeper so that she could be with her family and especially her children. Her love of helping others and educating children was a constant in her life. She was a devoted member of the PTO and returned to teaching in her retirement, tutoring elementary students through One-on-One Learning. Survivors include her husband, Dan Whitehurst, son, the Reverend Joseph Whitehurst, and her sister, Dr. Susan Justice (Tom). She was predeceased by her cherished son, Patrick Hoover Whitehurst. Visitation will be at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 6th, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 616 Quincy Rd, Seneca, SC 29678, with the funeral service following at 3:00pm.
