AIKEN, SC - Mrs. McCool was born at home on October 14, 1937 in Telfair County, GA. She was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church, Aiken, SC and formerly First Baptist Church of Centerville, GA. She was a former resident of Kathleen, GA before moving to Aiken. She was a military wife and retired as a bookkeeper and tax preparer. Vergie loved to go to Cherokee and Biloxi to gamble with her friends, Ann and Faye. She was an avid fan of watching baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. She loved to read historical fiction and work crossword puzzles. She also doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Jean Ridley (Bobby), Aiken and Wade McCool, Ft. Walton Beach, FL; grandchildren, Kyle, Jordan (Aniella), Austin Ridley, Alyssah Ridley, Matthew McCool (Summer), and Skyler Dunn (Alex); great grandchildren, Grayson McCool, Diego Chan Leguizamon, Camila and Valeska Ridley, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, CWO3 James Jonas McCool, US Navy (Ret), their son David Alan McCool, her parents, James and Thelma Davis, 8 half-siblings and 7 siblings including her twin brother, Vergil Davis.
The funeral service will be Thursday evening, April 7th at 6 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev. Gary Farina officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Interment will be Saturday morning, April 9th at 11 o’clock at Blockhouse Baptist Church Cemetery, 386 W River Rd, (GA Hwy 117) Jacksonville, GA 31544.
