AIKEN, SC - Verna B. Hoyt passed away February 14, 2022 at Trinity on Laurens in Aiken. She was born December 21, 1924 in Exeter, Maine, the daughter of Bernard and Fern (Everett) Bean. Verna graduated from East Corinth Academy in 1943 with the second-highest honor in her class. She loved studying the Bible and taught Sunday School for over forty years. She was well known for her excellence in upholstery, floral arrangements, and for being a professional seamstress. She was predeceased by her parents, two husbands, Earl J Camp (five years eight months), Merlyn J Hoyt (fifty-five years), two brothers Ronald and Malcolm Bean; five sisters, Nathalie Johnson, Theda Cross, Amber Rockwell, Jeanette Cross, and Patty Parker. Surviving her is one sister Ardith McGraw. She is survived by her children, Sylvia Camp Davis of Aiken, Merlita Hoyt Shorey of Groveland, FL and Joseph B. Camp of Spartanburg, SC. She is also is survived by five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is known as “Neeny” to Will and Elle. A visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Friday, February 18, immediately followed by a Service of Remembrance at Shellhouse Funeral Home, 924 Hayne Ave. Aiken SC. Reverend Joseph B. Camp and Reverend Bruce Fox will be the officiating ministers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity on Laurens 213 Laurens St. NW Aiken SC 29801 in memory of Verna B. Hoyt.
