AIKEN, SC – WANDA McGILL “TOMMIE” BOWMAN, 86, widow of Donald Burke Bowman, died, Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Cumberland Hills. A native of Clinton, TN, Tommie was a daughter of the late Lanania Jane Ring McGill and Rev. John Frederick McGill. She lived in Aiken since 1952. She worked for Manning Owens as a sales representative and buyer for many years and then Cullums Department Store. She retired from Pepperidge Farm where she worked in the accounting department. Tommie was a seamstress and loved sewing. She did monograming for several stores and Aiken High School sports teams during the 1970’s and made choir robes for her church, Millbrook Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She was an avid gardener and has camellia “Tommie Bowman Camellia” named after her in the National Camelia Registry. Survivors include her daughter, Jane Bowman, Sylva, NC; daughter-in-law, Lorrilee Bowman, Aiken; grandson, Brandon McIver, Columbia; step-grandchildren, Tammy Gomez and Tara Canty, both of Cincinnati, OH, Daniel Hall, Aiken; a sister, Sue Wilkerson, Lenoir City, TN. The family will receive friends Monday evening, May 22nd from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral will be Tuesday morning, May 23rd at 11 o’clock in Millbrook Chapel. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon McIver, Luc Goddard, Houston Brown, Harry Harmon, Steve Corley, Mike Tatum.
