AIKEN, SC - Wilbur Jackson, “Jack” McDougal, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 with his family by his side. He was 84.
Jack was born on February 24, 1937 in Lake City, SC to Thomas Leon McDougal and Nora Lee McDougal Cottingham.
Jack was a hardworking man. In his younger years, he was employed by Schafer Distributing Company in Florence, SC. He served 4 years in the National Guard. He moved to Aiken in 1968 and began working at Aiken Produce, where he retired in 2002. He served as the General Manager for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Gainey; brothers, Thomas Leon McDougal, Jr. and Freddie Lee McDougal; son, Kenneth Alan McDougal; daughter, Melanie Jane McDougal; and granddaughter, Kristy Joelle Burnette.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 64 years, Jane McDougal. He is survived by three children, all of Aiken, SC: Barry (and Michelle) McDougal, Joseph Dean McDougal, and Jenny Lynn McDougal Burnette. He is also survived by his sisters; Leona Tomlinson, Nelly Knotts, Sandra Lee of Florence, SC, and Francis Taylor of Roanoke, Va.
Jack, known to many as “Pappa,” was a proud grandfather to Joseph McDougal, Jr., Jacquelyn McDougal Benjamin, Jennifer Burnette, Amanda Burnette, Michelle Burnette, and Amy Walton. Jack leaves a long legacy of love that includes 16 great-grandchildren including the "apple of his eye", Ava Burnette.
Jack McDougal loved his family fiercely, and enjoyed tending to his land on “Hard Times Ranch.” He rode motorcycles, tractors, and horses, and as far as his life goes, he had a good, long ride. He was the foundation of his family and will be deeply missed by all.
Jack‘s life will be honored on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10 am, followed by a funeral service at 11 am, and a graveside gathering at noon at Aiken Memorial Gardens. The service will be live-streamed on Jack's obituary page at https://iframe.dacast.com/b/156599/c/585055.
Pallbearers will be Glen Campbell, Greg Kendrick, Chuck Martin, Tommy Matthews, James Sanders, and Wally Snipes.
