William J. Gustavson

December 4, 1948 — November 28, 2017

AIKEN - William J. Gustavson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor L. Gustavson, Jr., and grandson of the senior Gustavsons  and  Mr. and Mrs. Carlton T. Drumpelmann of Rocky River, Ohio.  He studied nuclear engineering at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, enjoyed a summer employed by IBM in London England, another summer on the iron ore boats of Cleveland Cliffs, and after graduation began employment with Stone & Webster Architectural Engineering in Boston, MA.  His career from that point on took him to Oak Ridge, TN., Hanford, WA, Baton Rouge, LA, and ultimately to the Savannah River Plant in Aiken, SC in 1985.    His most choice pastimes were on the golf course, with Susan, his wife of 44 years, with their sons, David, John, and Michael, of Chesapeake, VA, Aiken, and Greenville, SC, respectively, and with his grandson, Brayden John Gustavson of Aiken. With whatever group he traveled, he was valued for his good nature, his eagerness to contribute, and the enthusiasm with which he approached the activities of the day. Though his health has limited his activities and his contact with others in recent years, he has continued to be—for his family and close friends—the same thing his classmates voted him to be:  the Best All Round.  He died at his home in Aiken on Tuesday, November 28.    A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 1, 2017, in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Bourman officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SCWilliam's online guest book may be signed at www.shellhousefuneralhome.com To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of William J.
