William Edward Jones

WILLIAM “BILL” EDWARD JONES, 79, beloved husband of Romelia “Pat” Young Jones, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

 A native of Orange, NJ, Bill whose nickname was “Buster,” was a son of the late Joseph and Adelaide Holder Jones. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force after having served four years. 

 Bill and Pat, high school sweethearts, married in 1969, and three children were born from this union.  Bill and Pat after spending most of their lives in the Essex County area in New Jersey, retired to Aiken, South Carolina 6 years ago and became members of the Dibble Road Church of Christ.

 Bill worked as an NBA referee for three seasons, was an insurance salesman and broker, and an avid network marketer.  He spent his pastime playing golf and teaching others to play golf.  Still his primary focus was spent as a devoted Christian who also preached periodically and actively encouraged others to come to know the Lord.

 Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Pat, of 54 years; his two sons, Jomo Kenyatta (Joan) and Akida K. Jones, and his daughter, Alea Jones; five grandchildren, A’Jani J. Kenyatta, A’Jai I. Kenyatta, Daniel Jones, Naima T. Jones, Zyion E. Pierre; and his two sisters, Jennifer Bailey (Otis) and Alvenia Jones-Montgomery (Charles); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 The family will receive friends Wednesday morning, June 12th beginning at 10 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow at 11 o’clock with Minister Fred Singleton officiating.  Interment will take place Thursday morning, June 13th at 11 o’clock in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery.
