William F. Kelly, Jr.

AIKEN, SC – WILLIAM FRED KELLY, JR., 82, beloved husband of Charnell Barker Kelly, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A native of Houston, MO, Bill was a son of the late William Fred and Marjorie Ruth Keeney Kelly.  He grew up in California and graduated from Cal State University, Hayward.  Bill had a successful career as a nuclear physicist working with Allied General in Barnwell in the early 70’s.  He worked on the clean up of Three Mile Island in the 80’s.  He then worked with the DOE in Washington before moving to Aiken in 2001.  Bill retired in 2004 from the Savannah River Site.  He loved woodworking and was an accomplished furniture builder.  He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 61 years, Charnell, include three sons, Patrick Kelly, Charleston, SC, Michael Kelly (Alissa Mello), Dummerston, VT, Mark Kelly (Deanne), Clover, SC; five grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Daniel, Nina and Norah; a great-grandson, Parker Hurst.  In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Kathleen Kelly.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon beginning at 12:30 PM in the chapel of Millbrook Baptist Church.  The funeral service will follow at 1 o’clock with The Rev. Bill Howard officiating.  Interment will be in Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Millbrook Baptist Church, 223 South Aiken Blvd., Aiken, SC 29803.
