Aiken – Mr. William B Roberts “Bill”, 90, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024. William was married for over 67 years to his beloved wife, Margaret Ann (nee) Corley, who passed away in October, 2021.
He is survived by three children, Susan Roberts of New Jersey, Corley Roberts of Nashville, Tennessee, and William Roberts of Dallas, TX; his grandchildren, Sarah and Jessica; and one great grandchild, William. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Roberts
Bill went directly from high school in Coral Gables, FL, to the US Army. He then spent three years in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean conflict. After his service he returned to night school while working and raising a family.
He started his career with American Steel and Wire, then moved to Nelson Stud Welding, a division of TRW Corporation. Over the course of his 28 years there, he moved up through sales and completed his career as Marketing Manager with TRW, until his early and well-deserved retirement in 1993. He and Margaret moved to Aiken, SC shortly thereafter.
Bill always enjoyed the opportunity to give back to the community. He was a member of the Midwest Jaycee Organization in Kansas City where he was awarded the JCI Award for Outstanding Volunteer. Also, in Kansas City, he received Outstanding Young Men of America-1970 edition award. He spent 10 years in Aiken, SC, at SCORE, mentoring small business clients. He also spent nine years on the Woodside POA Board of Directors, as well as other duties for the Woodside community.
Bill was a graduate of Valparaiso University, then went back to school to receive his MBA from Baldwin-Wallace University.
Our father was a life-long enthusiast of the game of golf. We have it in writing from him that he once admitted he “plays lousy golf.”
Last but not least, our father and all who knew Bill Roberts knew he was a salesman of stories. He often embellished, and perhaps based his story on something he read in Reader’s Digest, but he always kept his family and friends entertained!
To Bill Roberts’ last story – rest in peace.
A gathering and celebration of Bill’s life will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM, Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the Woodside Country Club.
