Aiken – Mr. William Manen “Bill” Swinson, Jr., 84, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022.
Mr. Swinson was born December 21, 1937 in Glenwood, GA, a son of the late William Manen Swinson, Sr. and Adlene Robertson Swinson. As a child, the Swinson family moved to Waverly, Florida. Bill graduated from Winter Haven High School and went on to play football, on a full scholarship, at the University of Florida. During his life Bill worked as a teacher, coach, Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy, and most of his career, in construction based out of Forest, Mississippi. He worked until late 2019 for Perry Construction Company in Philadelphia, Mississippi.
He is survived by his two daughters, Keli (Wes) Holbrook, Aiken, SC, and Paula (Tim) Michel, McKinney, TX; one son in law, Everette Stokes, Philadelphia, MS, five grandchildren, Kyle (Audrey) Stokes, Philadelphia, MS, Will (Megan) Holbrook, Aiken, SC, Hannah Holbrook, Lexington, SC, Jared Michel, McKinney, TX, Joey Elizabeth Michel, McKinney, TX. One brother, Tony (Jean) Swinson, Havana, FL and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Swinson was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Jean Stokes Swinson, a daughter, Sonya Stokes, grandson, Joey Stokes, & sister, Nita Batson.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at Coy Community Church in Preston, MS on Saturday, February 12th at 11am. Dress is casual.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Creek Church-West Campus, Graniteville, SC; Parkway Hills Baptist Church, Plano, TX; or Coy Community Church, Preston, MS. All three faith communities have prayed for, supported, and richly blessed Bill and his family.
