William Tharpe

WILLIAM THARPE, 80, beloved husband of Marilyn G. Edwards Tharpe, passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, July 2, 2023 at his home.

A native of Wrightsville, GA, William was a son of the late William Cecil and Mary Sybil Kitchens Tharpe.  He moved to Aiken in 1964 and went to work at Owens Corning Fiberglass.  He retired in 1998 after 34 years with the company.  He was a former volunteer with the Aiken Rescue Squad.  He enjoyed fishing, boating and camping and was an avid Clemson Football fan.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 58 years, Marilyn, are his daughter, Karen Sellers (Clayton), East Dublin, GA; son, Phillip Tharpe, Leesville, SC; grandsons, Clay Sellers (Kaleigh), Collin Sellers; great-grandson, Charlie Higgs; sister, Nelma Webb (Jim), Centerville, GA;  brother, Mickey Tharpe (Shirley), Wrightsville, GA and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, July 6th beginning at 1 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 2 o’clock.  The Rev. Danny Wilson will officiate.  Private interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.
