Walker Crosby

August 10, 1955 — October 13, 2022

Aiken – Mr. Walker Crosby, 67, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family Thursday, October 13, 2022.

Walker was born in Chester, SC, son of the late Ernest Alvin and Lottie Mae Walters Crosby.  He was an Allstate Insurance agent for 36 years in Aiken.

A family man and friend to all, Walker’s presence will surely be missed.  He was a mover and a shaker, not one to sit still.  For him, work was pleasurable.  He was active in many groups among his community including Woodcutters in Cedar Mountain, Aiken Model A’s Car Club, Shade Tree A’s Car Club, Aiken Lions Club, Aiken High School Booster Club, coach of his girls’ church league basketball teams, and served in many roles at Aiken’s First Baptist Church where he was an active member for 36 years.

He enjoyed making memories with his family near and far, not one afraid to travel.  An adventurer at heart, he shared his love for all things water, camping, Clemson, spending time in Cedar Mountain, and often reminded his 4 girls that “these are special times.”  He was a proud Papa to his 4 grandchildren, including 2 more on the way.  They will miss his pan-sized pancakes and many golfcart rides, just to name a few. When he finally gained two sons (in-law), he was happy to have them to “commiserate” with.

He made friends wherever he went and kept them for his lifetime.  A mentor to many who walked through his office door, he had a heart that loved people well.  Even when cancer seemed to loom, he did what he knew to do- keep moving and keep believing in the God who He knew could make all things new.  Miracles were witnessed in the many years he, his beloved wife Pam, and his team at MUSC fought.  When Walker and Pam said their vows 40 years ago, they meant them- in sickness and health, poverty and wealth, for better or worse.  He loved his “Queenie” and took good care of her as she did him.  They were a team through it all- from their years at Lander University where they met, to raising 4 girls, to surviving cancer for over 20 years.  Through it all, his hope was for God to be glorified.  He will be sorely missed, but we find comfort that we will see him again in our Perfect Home.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Young Crosby; daughters, Tyler Elizabeth Crosby, Charleston, SC, Morgan Crosby (Kirk) Ellison, Fairview, NC, Hannah McDowell Crosby, Aiken, SC, Addison Crosby (Wells) Pierce, Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Crosby Matthew Ellison, Maggie Ruth Ellison, Kit Louise Ellison, Lottie Grace Pierce. A sister, Patricia Crosby (Robert) Shannon, Chester, SC.

In addition to his parents, Walker was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Crosby Ostling and a stepfather James Craton Yelton.

A Celebration of Life for Walker will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 16, 2022, at Aiken’s First Baptist Church, with the Reverend John Carroll officiating.  The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
